12:28 start - water level mid, with most mudflats visible (12:32 low
tide - 7.0ft)
12:59 end

Tweeters,
Mostly cloudy, chill south wind, slight chop on the waters of Turning
Basin #3. A pair of RED-TAILED HAWKS circled overhead, harassed by a
couple of gulls. Same (probable) twosome has been hanging around for
about a week.

Interesting to note that some folks have been feeding the domestic goose
that's been on the river continuously since 9-28-2004 (and could be the
bird I saw in July). However, it appears that members of the local gull
population are now very much aware of when someone is in the vicinity of
the goose, with free handouts possible. Walk to the river overlook near
the goose - gulls start to fly in. The usual Glaucous-winged Gulls also
had two CALIFORNIA GULLS among them.

Had a very dark-winged gull fly by, but didn't have much chance to see
it before it flew out of sight. Size and coloration very much suggested
an adult Western Gull (not the usual hybrids that I've seen
occasionally). I'll be on the lookout the next few days to see if this
bird is still around and to possibly get a better view of it.

Birds seen during this scan include the following:
Domestic goose
Gadwall (7)
Mallard (5)
Bufflehead
Common Merganser
Double-crested Cormorant (7)
Great Blue Heron
Red-tailed Hawk (2)
California Gull (2)
Glaucous-winged Gull (18; one feeding on a salmon carcass)
Rock Pigeon (5)
American Crow (20)
Bewick's Wren

May all your birds be identified,
