Today, I got out before daybreak and headed up to the Weyerhaeuser A-2300 line with the hopes of adding Moutain Quail to my year list. Just as it was getting light enough to see, I noticed 6 Mountain Quail about 75 yards ahead of me on the logging road. I stopped the car and continued up the road on foot with my video camera in hand. The ultra-shy quail allowed me to get about 10 seconds of video of one bird that lingered in the road. The quality isn't that great though. This area is just north of the towns of Elma and Satsop, best accessed from the end of Newman Creek Road.

Also, I did a quick trip around the Brady Loop area with the most notable sighting being 2 male Eurasian Wigeons on the western side of the loop. The pond there had a nice group of wigeon and coot that were being dive bombed by 3 Northern Harriers. One at a time, a harrier would fly in low and dive onto the group of ducks causing the ducks to scatter in a splash of water. I also noted 4 adult Bald Eagles around the loop.
