Subject: [Tweeters] Hybird goldeneye in Kingston

Tweets - coming back from the Olympic Peninsula yesterday, Brian Bell and I
noticed that one of the goldeneyes at the Kingston Ferry Terminal was a bit
different. There were 40 or more BARROW'S GOLDENEYE visible from the south
side of the ferry as the cars loaded. One, though, appears to be a hybrid
BARROW'SxCOMMON drake. See the April 1994 issue of Birding for a brief
description of such hybrids. Our bird was a perfect match, with the facial
spot being a more circular teardrop than is typical of Barrow's, and with
the spotting on the back stretched out to being *almost* Common Goldeneye
streamers, but with each one still distinctly separated by black, and not
quite as long as Common's. An interesting bird.
