The swans at Lake Crescent and around the Tualco Road area are trumpeters.
I have been keeping track of their movements as well as the main group of
swans in the upper Snohomish River valley/Snoqualmie valley area.
Yesterday about 390 were on the dairy farm at Tresti Road and old
Snohomish/Monroe road in the green pasture. There were 19 tundra swans
there as well.
A few trumpeters are now roosting at Crescent Lake. Most are at Shadow
Lake at the Bob Heirman Wildlife Park off Connelly Road south of Snohomish.
At this time Shadow Lake is defrosting, one swan dead and 2 sick, likely
from lead shot ingestion but we will know more after tests.
One trumpeter with collar M59 (VHF radio as well) is in the Snohomish
group.
Anyone seeing red, yellow or black collared birds please try to read the
collar code and report it back to me. If you see a sick or injured swans in
Snohomish or King County also contact me.
