There have been posts stating that some are seeing more Towhees this year then normal. We see 8-10 at a time. In the past we saw 2-4. Some of the mature males almost seem to glow because their colors are so vibrant. Their spots and wing bars are very defined. The females are dull in comparison and have little or no white on the wings. Could it be that the bird you see is a female? The females are brown where the males are black.

Since the song of the Spotted Towhee is in question, I would like a little more info on the coloration. I know each bird is separate and has different color patterns. There is a Spotted Towhee here off and all since September, and it has basically no white spotting. (Even with the camera's eye looking) Is it fairly common to have this particular species that has little or no white spotting on it?
