Here is a bit of a supplement to Jason Paulios' earlier post. After
Jason and the Orange County birder left, a flock of teal spooked from the
willows and other shrubbery on the left side of the pond (as viewed from the south
platform), and landed near the other side. This was around 12:15 pm. Henry
Gilmore quickly found the bird, but before he could get the 5 or 6 others of
us on the tower on the bird, it apparently ducked into the vegetation, as has
been it's custom, and no one else saw it.
At about 2:10pm, Dave Beaudette from Wenatchee announced that the bird
was in the open, and all of us there had extended, reasonably close looks at
the bird as it posed out in the open. When Henry and I left at 2:30pm, the
bird was still sitting in open water in plain sight of those who remained.
What a gorgeous bird!
Good birding, Mike
