Subject: [Tweeters] UW Birding Week

Hi Tweeters,

I was not able to get out as much as I would have
liked this week. A few nice surprises though. The
Redheads are around but seem to be on the move. This
morning I saw two males clear out across Portage Bay
from Sakuma Viewpoint park.

Today at lunch an Anna's flew in and landed quite
close to me. I was enjoying watching him up close
bill wiping and "licking his lips" when all heck broke
loose. Birds squawking all around and many flying
fast over the cut. I knew a predator bird must have
come through but did not see it until later. It was
the immature Cooper's Hawk. It did a great job of
sneak attack. I wonder how it is really doing. I
have not seen it with prey except once and that wasn't
today after the bombing raid. No signs of a capture
such as a pile of feathers. Must be doing OK though
or it wouldn't still be around.
