Thanks everyone for responding. I have a couple of names to contact down there, and it sounds like the Pranty book is a must-have for birding down there. Cheers!

Brett,

I can second Burt's suggestion. I found Pranty's book invaluable and very accurate while I was there. Don't miss the Belle Glade area of Okeechobee (especially the campground) and Royal Palm in Everglades Nat'l Park. Shark Valley on the north edge of the park was pretty good too, and if time permits, Corkscrew Swamp is worth your time.

Enjoy!

Hey gang, I know that Lake Okeechobee (sp?) and the Everglades are both close to Ft. Lauderdale. I am planning a trip there in late February and was wondering if anyone knows of any particular locals to do some birding while there. Just saying the Everglades doesn't say much, because there are surely some places to go in the area better suited to birding access than others. And if you know anyone in the area who would be willing to direct me to some favored spots and what to expect, please feel free to forward my e-mail to them. Thanks!
