Great day at "The Fill" with warm temperatures and calm conditions drawing out most birds you would expect to see this time of year. List for the day includes:
1 Peregrine Falcon
2 Sharp Shinned Hawks
1 Coopers Hawk
1 Belted Kingfisher
7 Anna's Hummingbird (seen displaying swooping J courtship behavior many different times and locations)
2 Hooded Mergansers (male & female)
9 Wood Ducks (5 male & 4 female)
15+ Gadwall
12 Bufflehead males (numerous subadult and females)
100+ Coots
20+ Pelagic Cormorant/Double Breasted
3 Song sparrow (singing like April)
2 Northern Flicker
numerous Mallards
11 Pied Billed Grebe
7 Western Grebe (observed at mid-span of 520 with bino's)
3 Northern Shoveler
3 Green Winged Teal
1 Bewicks Wren
1 Common Merganser
12 Canadian Geese
2 Flocks of American Robin numbering 50+ each
30+ American Widgeon
3 Eurasian Widgeon
8 Ring Necked Duck
20+ Lesser Scaup (possible Greater mixed in but unsure)
numerous Gulls (possibly 3 species) but I am bad with my Gull I.D.
Green Heron observed through other birders scope (Thanks)
10+ Chestnut Backed Chickadee's
10+ Black Capped Chickadee

Also of note were 2 banded Crows. One had an orange band on its right leg, and its partner had a white band also on its right leg. Is this common? Any ideas why Crows are being banded and who is doing it?
