I enjoyed some very nice weather this morning at Ocean Shores. The wind was brisk, but it was rather mild and not wet at all. I did bump into another birder from Ocean Shores whose name escapes me now, but he did mention that he had sighted a Gyrfalcon on Damon Point last Friday. No luck today though. Here's some of my sightings:

Damon Point: Common Loon, Horned Grebe, Western Grebe, White-winged Scoter, Surf Scoter, Northern Harrier, Bald Eagle, Peregrine Falcon, Sanderling, and Dunlin. Plus two flighty yellow-tinged birds in the grass that never allowed me a good look. I am thinking they were Horned Larks, but can't be for sure.

Just north of the Marina Hotel, I pished up four Palm Warblers out of the scotchbroom. A life bird for me that has escaped me the past two times in Ocean Shores. They were quite active with their tail-bobbing.

I visited the jetty at high tide which had the rock-loving shorebirds up high on the rocks and very close to the beach. I was able to pick out at least two Rock Sandpiper out of the many Surfbird and Black Turnstone.

On the way home, I stopped at the Hoquiam STP and found one Red-tailed Hawk and one Rough-legged Hawk. The Red-shouldered was not seen. On the pond itself, there were quite a few Northern Shoveler. One single Canvasback was present and the lone Snow Goose is still there.

Good birding,
