Subject: [Tweeters] February visit to NW Coast

Hello again,

Many thanks again to all who sent me information. However, nearly
everyone suggested that I post a list of birds and that I would like to
see during my visit, and a more detailed plan for my trip. First of
all, I do intend to be working the coastal areas, from the Central
coast of Oregon, up into Washington, and maybe even a little bit into
Canada. Therefore, many of my target species are indeed relatively
"involved" with water, although some of them are not. Consequently,
these lists are divided into "water/water related" and "not". So, if
you can help me with these target birds, or just give me some info on
them, that would again be fantastic!

(This is a very early and basic plan, and may be changed later on)
I am flying into the Seattle Airport on Saturday, February 12. If the
Falcated is still around, hopefully I'll head down into Oregon to pick
it up (does anyone know long the drive is from Seattle to Eugene?) Then
I intend to work my way up the coast until February 17, hitting the
parks and reserves that you guys (Tweeters) recommend.

Here are the lists:

"WATER/WATER RELATED"
Yellow-billed Loon
Tundra Swan
Brant
Cackling Goose
Eurasian Wigeon
*Falcated Duck* (OR)
Barrow's Goldeneye
Virginia Rail
Black Turnstone
Rock Sandpiper
Surfbird
Mew Gull
Calif. Gull
Glaucous Gull
Thayer's Gull
Marbled Murrelet
Ancient Murrelet
Rhino Auklet
American Dipper

"NOT"
Gyrfalcon
Ruffed or Blue grouse, or really any kind of game bird (except turkeys)
No. Pygmy Owl
No. Saw-whet Owl
Red-breasted Sapsucker
Pileated Woodpecker
Golden-crowned Kinglet (is this a gimme?)
Varied Thrush
Northern Shrike
Hutton's Vireo
Purple Finch
Cassin's Finch
Pine Siskin
Evening Grosbeak
Golden-crowned Sparrow
Fox Sparrow
Red Crossbill
Townsend's Warbler
Northwestern Crow
Bohemian Waxwing?
(If I think of any more birds, I'll be sure to pester you with more
lists)

Thanks again to all who provided me with info,

Cheers and good birding,
Alex Lin-Moore
Houston

P.S. I would like to send out apologies in advance to anyone who finds
this message in any way, shape, or form offensive and/or deviating from
purpose of Tweeters.
Alex
