This thread of birder vs. naturalist had me thinking up this question: Does anyone know a person who is a PURE birder, that is they are just interested in birds and nothing else in the natural world? I think most birder are curious about other NON-avian species that we encounter. I assume that birders have guide books on these non-bird species. I just saw a guide to the land snails (and slugs)of British Columbia, now there's an obscure group to study! I can see it now, a Rare Slug Alert for an eastern jumping-slug!
