I saw a Red Admiral on the 28th or 29th of November in Coupeville (Whidbey
Island). I remember thinking it was just a couple of days from December and
I wished it would make it into the 12th month. It's not rare to see Orange
Sulphers on sunny November days and I had 1 in downtown Oak Harbor on
February 5th 4 years ago.
My favorite story was courtesy of one of the blues. I picked it up on a
cloudy cold (temps in the low 40's) day in March and put it on the back of
my hand to protect it from the prowling starlings. It rode my hand and arm
all morning and afternoon as I worked outdoors. When I came in it would flex
it's wings and then go lethargic when I ventured outside into the cold. It
really wanted to overnight in my coat sleeve but I left in a bush.
