The HUTTON'S VIREO near Walla Walla, Walla Walla Co WA, first seen back on
18 Dec, was seen again on 29 Jan by Mike and MerryLynn Denny. This bird is
part of a mixed feeding flock foraging around the Blue Mountain Archery
Range, which is 1.1 miles east up Blue Creek Road off Mill Creek Road.
Follow Mill Creek east from Walla Walla about 5 miles. Mill Creek is south
of US 12. WA DeLorme 41, D-7.

The Moscow, Latah Co ID RUSTY BLACKBIRDS continue to be seen. The latest
sighting was today, 29 Jan by Dave Holick. The birds are at the University
of Idaho Sheep Farm, northeast of the Palouse Mall on the western edge of
Moscow. From Winco, head north past the theatre. At the stop sign continue
straight toward the wood chip pile. Follow the road as it winds back to the
farm.

Scott Downes found a RUSTY BLACKBIRD just east of Ellensburg, Kittitas Co WA
29 Jan. The bird was with some blackbirds and starlings at the intersection
of Number 81 Road and Snodgrass. WA DeLorme 50, A-4.

An adult male WILLIAMSON'S SAPSUCKER was found 28 Jan by Dennis Rockwell in
Two Rivers Co Park, Benton Co WA. He's working sap wells in an Austrian pine
and was seen by several birders on 29 Jan. From WA 397 head east on Finley
Road 1.5 miles to the parking area. WA DeLorme 39, C-8.

In the Lewiston, Nez Perce Co ID area some good birds are persisting. Today,
29 Jan, I saw the roosting NORTHERN SAW-WHET OWL and a small flock of LESSER
GOLDFINCHES in Spalding Park near Lapwai. Head east from Lewiston on US 95
toward Lapwai. Just after crossing the river, turn left into the Nez Perce
historical site and immediately turn right, heading down hill toward the
picnic area. At the stop sign, turn left and follow the road over the bridge
to the grove of trees / cemetery / picnic area. ID DeLorme 54, A-1.5. Also
today the 4 LONG-TAILED DUCKS (1 male, 3 females) were still on the
Clearwater River near the Lewiston Grain Terminal. The waterfowl on the
river can be easily scanned with a scope from the easternmost parking lot
along the US 12 bypass around downtown Lewiston. Keith Carlson found a BARN
OWL in Hells Gate SP at the south end of the picnic area on 25 Jan. To get
there from the north end of Lewiston, follow US 12 across the Clearwater
River and then stay right past the first traffic light. At the next light,
which is 18th Street, turn right and follow the bypass until it ends at
Snake River Avenue. Turn right onto Snake River and follow it a couple miles
south to the entrance. ID DeLorme 54, A-1.

On 28 Jan near Vantage, Kittitas Co WA, just north of I-90 in the middle of
the Columbia River were 2 LONG-TAILED DUCKS and a PACIFIC LOON according to
Scott Downes. WA DeLorme 52, A-1.
A wandering flock of about 60 CLARK'S NUTCRACKERS were just north of
Pullman, Whitman Co WA on 29 Jan according to Tom and Diane Webber. The
birds were near Rose Creek, along McIntosh Road. From Pullman, head north on
WA 27 and turn left on the Albion-Pullman Road. In Albion, turn right on
Main Street, which becomes Old Albion Road (gravel). Proceed 2.8 miles and
turn left on Shawnee Road (formerly known as Four Mile Road).McIntosh bears
right in about a mile. WA DeLorme 57, B-7.

Doug Schonewald found some nice gulls on 29 Jan on the log booms at Coulee
Playland in Electric City, Grant Co WA. The best were 2 first winter
GLAUCOUS GULLS, 2 first winter and an adult THAYER'S GULL, and a second
winter GLAUCOUS-WINGED GULL. WA DeLorme 85, A-8.

Good birding!
