Birders,

Ryan Tomlinson, Connor Charlesworth and I birded the upper elevations of
Beaver Lake Road and Dee Lake Road today. It was great to be birding in
these high elevation forests with just a sweater on! Birds were few and far
between but we found some interesting things nonetheless.

SPRUCE GROUSE - Male and female at km 7 on Dee Lake Road. Male was in full
display on the ground, while female fed in a spruce tree.

GRAY JAY - 10. We fed three Gray Jays granola today. As soon as I rustled
the plastic wrapper of the granola bar the birds flew in to investigate. It
did not take long for us to coax them to take food from our hands, the tops
of our heads and even from our lips! Incredible experience.

BOREAL CHICKADEE - 3 at km 4 on Dee Lake Road. Two of the three came in very
close to investigate pishing. Excellent looks were had.

Mountain Chickadee 12
Red-breasted Nuthatch 5
Common Raven 6
Pileated Woodpecker 1

Along Middle Bench Road on the E. side of Woods Lake we found a flock of 7
PINE GROSBEAKS and 2 or more AMERICAN ROBINS. While driving from Winfield to
Kelowna we saw two different COOPER'S HAWKS. The GYRFALCON and a MERLIN were
at Marshall's Feedlot in Kelowna, and another MERLIN was at my house on
Richards Road.
