Dear Tweeters,

After getting sick last night and canceling my Ocean
Shores birding trip with my friend Jim (sorry, Jim!),
I woke up feeling fine. Down to Butler Flats I went,
where a drake Canvasback caught my eye at the Green
Road Pond. Even better was a drake Common Teal
(horizontal white stripes, no vertical ones).

>From there I went to the Samish Flats. At the County
ballfields by Allen West Road off Chuckanut (across
from the grocery) was a goodly flock of gulls,
including one Glaucous Gull (second winter?). Also fun
there was a Merlin that buzzed over the gull flock,
giving them a bit of a scare. The Merlin rocketed into
a bird feeder just west of there, but came up empty
handed.
