Hi Tweeters,

All the Great Blue Herons in the old nests, 3 nests in
the cottonwood, 2 in the firs have fledged. There are
currently 2 new nests that are active in the firs that
were built about a month ago. I heard nestlings in
the nest in tallest fir this morning. They must be
tiny because the noise is tiny, comparatively speaking
to the squawking oldsters when they get fed. I
reported about the oldsters about 2 weeks ago. I went
back that evening and got to hear and sort of see an
interesting thing that night. The top nest in the
cottonwood got a delivery from a parent and the usual
ruckus ensued but it went on. I was not close by but
could see the nest where I was. It looked like the
nestlings were being fed a novel item and they didn't
know what to make of it. I suspect it was a mole. It
looked black and furry from afar. All of the young
herons would pick it up and then drop it back down
into the nest. I don't know if any of them ate it or
not.

This morning the Bullock's Orioles nestlings were very
noisy at feeding. There is a nest in the heron's
cottonwood tree. Usually there is a nest around the
fir trees too but I didn't hear any activity there.
Good morning for woodpeckers. At least 6 Northern
Flickers giving many different calls including the
woika, woika call and doing a few of the head bob
displays. At least 2 Downy's flying around as well.

The park is across the street from St Thomas
Episcopal. Good driving directions in the direction
