On Monday, the Fourth of July, my wife and I decided to bird the
eastern side of Klickitat County where we encountered some good birding
despite the 95 degree weather. Following are our best finds.

3 BLACK-CROWNED NIGHT-HERONS at the mouth of Pine Creek on Highway 14.
2 FERRUGINOUS HAWKS on Sand Ridge Rd.
1 PRAIRIE FALCON in Alder Canyon.
11 CHUKAR on Rock Creek Rd.
2 GRAY PARTRIDGE near the second set of corrals along Six Prong Rd.
4 BLACK-NECKED STILTS at the Mercer Carrot Ponds on Alderdale Rd.
2 AMERICAN AVOCETS at Crow Butte Park (Benton County).
1 BURROWING OWL near the second set of corrals along Six Prong Rd.
ASH-THROATED FLYCATCHER on Cider Valley Rd.
WESTERN KINGBIRD, numerous and widespread saw at least a dozen pair.
EASTERN KINGBIRD, not as common as the westerns but widespread.
7 LOGGERHEAD SHRIKES Sand Ridge Rd.
2 SAGE THRASHERS at the at the traditional site - old farmstead along
Sand Ridge Rd.
1 YELLOW-BREASTED CHAT at the Sundale Boat Ramp.
3 SAGE SPARROWS at the traditional site - old farmstead along Sand Ridge
Rd.
