Do fireworks harm birds? Every year I am saddened when I hear the occasional alarmed chirping, long after the birds' bedtime, when the fireworks start. Last night my family observed a Great Blue Heron winging over Skyway, which turned rapidly away from a starburst that was too close for its comfort. I enjoy fireworks as much as anybody but have always wondered if they cause any avian problems; I also wish I knew what the birds are thinking when all the commotion begins. They probably blame the House Sparrows and starlings.
