I'm not sure about fireworks and birds, but the neighborhood bats were way
more apparent Monday night than other nights! Every time our neighbor shot
of some big ones, the bats would fly out from the direction of his house.

Do fireworks harm birds? Every year I am saddened when I hear the
occasional alarmed chirping, long after the birds' bedtime, when the
fireworks start. Last night my family observed a Great Blue Heron winging
over Skyway, which turned rapidly away from a starburst that was too close
for its comfort. I enjoy fireworks as much as anybody but have always
wondered if they cause any avian problems; I also wish I knew what the birds
are thinking when all the commotion begins. They probably blame the House
Sparrows and starlings.
