Hello Tweets,

We have placed 9 photos of the Black-backed Woodpeckers taken yesterday near Takhlakh Lake onto our website, which include a juvenile male at the nestsite,as well as both the adult male and female birds. The lighting was our biggest downfall factor,as we stood from above along the lava ridge within the actual burned area and as a result our photos didn't develop as best as we would have liked. We concentrated mostly on the adult male bird rather than the female, which the latter bird was slightly shyer and more elusive. As mentioned in our Tweeters posting you can see the nesthole from FR 2329,which lies below the burned area and is an alternative to avoid making the uphill hike up into the more rugged area. The hike is not too strenuous, but we mention this as an alternative if you have a spotting scope and are able to locate the nestsite from the road,as well as the adult birds. Our photos of the Black-backed Woodpeckers can be viewed in our woodpecker gallery at the following link:

In addition to our Black-backed Woodpecker photos we have placed 3 updated recent dragonfly scans onto our dragonfly gallery including a Crimson-ringed and Hudsonian Whiteface, which were both collected at Horseshoe Lake. These scans be viewed for those that are interested at the following link:
