In reponse to Kelly Cassidy's report, The parks department also has Chukar listed for Shafer State Park on the Satsop, as well as Moose, Sheep and Marmots. I have been going to the Satsop all my life and yet to see any of these.
As for some of the reports, last Thursday in Hood Canal while tied up to one of the WDFW buoys on the south side of Potlatch, both a Marbled Murrolet and a Pigeon Guillemot were fishing right along side my boat. They were both there for at least an hour each, sometimes coming within a boat length of me. A Kingfisher was also there perched on an old gill netter and ocaisionally diving for the small fish that were all around us. The birds we regularly see such as Cormerants and the various species of Ducks and Gulls were there as well. A Harbor Seal was there as well.
The Wednesday before, I was at my property on the Satsop River and came across some Red Tailed Hawks along Bingham Creek who I are nesting in a big Cedar. Also saw a couple Bald Eagles and a Goldfinch in the same area. After leaving that area I went to a beaver pond for some Bass fishing and heard Bandtailed Pigeons some where in the trees, these are always here. Later, down at the property their were some Mergansers with young on the river, after they saw me the all took off upriver somewhere.
Right now there are two Hummingbirds in the yard but my vision isn't good enough to identify them, they all look like little blobs. But earlier this morning in Pt. Defiance Park I saw another Bald Eagle near Owen Beach. I also heard another while back in the trails along the Five Mile Drive as well as the regular song birds I can't identify.
I go to Pt. Defiance and Titlow a couple times a week but I am still trying to learn all the birds there, a CD of their songs would be nice since I can't most of what I here.
