Subject: [Tweeters] Cassin's Finches at Hardy Burn parking area

Dear Tweeters,

On July 18, Howard and Thais Armstrong and I visited
the Hardy Burn parking area, where at least ten
Evening Grosbeaks and at least two Cassin's Finches
were gravelling up. I have been told that the WOS trip
led by Kraig Kemper and Bob Kuntz a week or two ago
produced similar sightings of these two species up
there, but I don't have the date. Steve Mlodinow has
asked me for details on the earlier sighting of
Cassin's up there, so if anyone knows the date, please
let him know.

We also went up to Easy Pass yesterday, which did not
seem all that easy to those of the party who are not
in shape. It was windy out of the forest, and not too
birdy compared the the Hardy Burn lot, but we did hear
a Pine Grosbeak. We never saw it. It was about
two-thirds of the way out of the forested portion of
the trail, well above the footbridge. Up in the
subalpine areas, we saw very few birds.

Yours truly,

Gary Bletsch
