Dear Tweets,

First, a heartfelt thanks to all who submitted suggestions on what to do
with a junco which decided to nest in a roof soffit, only a few weeks from
our roof getting replaced.

The best part of these advice threads is hearing the final outcome,
particularly if it's a happy ending. I got up on a ladder, and noticed the
nest building was not inside the roof soffit, but on top of the masonary
facade just under the eve of the roof. There was only one male junco
present, with one nest nearly finished, and another newly started. I
confirmed there were no eggs and no female, then took a stick and pulled
down both nests. About an hour later, I noticed one of the nests was being
rebuilt and promptly pulled it down. A short time later I stuck my head
out the door and saw the male junco surveying the nest area. He saw me and
took off, abandoning the effort altogether.

Thankfully, the nest wasn't built and the effort could be stopped before
there were eggs or a young brood to contend with. Definitely some
inconvenience for one male junco, but he could have had it worse.

Thank you all again for your support,

Scott Orange
