For the third month in a row, a Yellow-breasted Chat sounded off from the
lagoon island at Kent Ponds during today's census. Among 50 other species,
the highlights were two American Bitterns (1 displaying), a Bullock's
Oriole, and the pair of Cooper's Hawks with two fledged young. Tree Swallows
have dropped off significantly in the last couple weeks.
After the census Roger Orness and I stopped at Boeing Ponds, which produced
an adult Solitary Sandpiper along with just one Least and several Spotted
Sandpipers.
