Wondering if anybody knows whether California quail lose their crests,
or perhaps take a year or so to develop them.
Two quail were across the street from our north Seattle home (Maple Leaf
neighborhood, corner of 12th Avenue N.E. and N.E. 89th Street) at 6:30
this morning, a first in our nearly seven years there. They seemed
unconcerned by sidewalk traffic and were marked and sized like
California quail, but without the crest. We've seen many California
quail, but none crestless.
