Tweeters,

The following bird sighting was reported to me by a birding acquaintance
over the Memorial Day weekend. I know Eastern Kingbirds are extremely rare
on the west side of the Cascades.

The following are my field notes:
Black color on head extended below the eye, white breast, very
distinctive white tips on the end of all of the tail feathers, short,
but substantial beak. He remained perched on a nearby branch for a
relatively long time, which allowed good observation. I did not see any
hairs on his beak, but they may have been there. Also, (Alas!) I did
not hear any song.

I saw him in "Snoqualmie Bog", which is about 1000 feet above sea level
in the North Fork of the Snoqualmie. The route to the bog from the
gravel road is complicated and it is in a Natural Heritage Site, so it
is probably not appropriate to post anything more detailed.
