I have a friend who had steller's Jays in her shed. They fledged 7 - 10 days ago.

I have a group of Steller's Jays that come to my deck regularly for peanuts.
Although it seems early, I believe some are this year's babies. They make
that baby "feed me" noise, and spread out their wings. They "beg" from both
other birds and from us! Although we seem to be the only ones who respond
and feed them.

We noticed at least two of them have raw looking pink areas on their
"knees". (I don't know what that joint is properly called.) We puzzled over
it last year, too. Then my husband came up with what I thought was a great
theory. He thinks it's from sitting on the nest!

Has anyone else noticed this? Could his theory be correct?
