Since we had a mild winter and pleasant spring, our chickadees nested in our box early. Although I did not see the fledglings, I think the first batch popped out 10 days ago.
There had been a lot of activity and baby noises from the box and then lots of parental noise a week ago Sunday. Unfortunately we weren't home for most of the day to see the kidlets.
Then, silence, no box activity that I noticed. A chickadeeless yard for almost 3 days!
Then suddenly we have adult chickadees visiting the box.
I think we'll get a double nesting this year! This happened once before about 6-7 years ago.
I'll know for sure when I take the box down in the fall.
We'll make an extra special effort to get pictures of the new babies this time. Baby chickadees are enormously funny as they learn to fly.
But it only takes them about an hour to get good at flying.
Landing, of course, is a bit more difficult and totally hilarious.
