This is the Vancouver Natural History Society's Rare Bird Alert for
Thursday, June 2nd, sponsored in part by the Wild Birds Unlimited stores in
Vancouver and North Vancouver.

The featured bird is possible VEERY.

Sightings for Thursday, June 02

A bird fitting the description of a VEERY was seen along the Grant Narrows
Nature Dyke. This the wooded dyke leading east towards the mountains between
the caretakers trailer and the snack shack. Also seen here were several
BULLOCK'S ORIOLES, a GRAY CATBIRD, and 2 EASTERN KINGBIRD. At various
locations south of the Narrows along Rannie Rd. were three other GRAY
CATBIRDS.

Seen from the Tsawwassen Jetty were 67 PACIFIC LOONS and a BRANT'S
CORMORANT.

Wednesday, June 1

Two SANDHILL CRANES thought to be immature were seen feeding with Canada
Geese on the north side of the Golden Eagles GC in Pitt Meadows.

In the waters off Point Robert's Lighthouse Park were 30 PACIFIC LOONS.

A MARBLED GODWIT was seen from the Tsawwassen Jetty.

Monday, May 30

A LARK SPARROW was seen at Iona Island on the south side of the southeast
sewage pond.

Sunday, May 29

At Iona, a female WILSON'S PHALAROPE was at the southeast sewage pond along
with a SEMIPALMATED PLOVER. Six YELLOW-HEADED BLACKBIRDS were at the outer
pond.

A GRAY CATBIRD was along the nature dyke trail at Grant Narrows, and another
GRAY CATBIRD was seen at the last bend in the road before Grant Narrows.

A COMMON NIGHTHAWK was over Burns Drive in south Burnaby.

Six male LAZULI BUNTINGS were at Colony Farm.
