Last summer, at least, they put on a nightly show in rural Port Orchard (Kitsap Co). Late June to early August just at dusk. Find an old clearcut, stretch out on the hood/windshield, and enjoy the show.

There are still nighthawks to be found in the south sound area. Not as
many as in years past, but on a warm June or July night in the Hawks
Prairie area (northeast Lacey) you ought to be able to see half a dozen
or more. Try the Meriwood golf courses, or the industrial areas along
Willamette Drive.

They seem to like recent clearcuts - I suspect that if you were to
explore up in the Capitol Forest, Bald Hills or other active logging
areas you might turn up more.

Are there nighthawks around the Puget Sound area? How about Auburn?
After reading about Joy's and other Tweets' experience with them, I
would love to see and hear some!
