Hi Tweeters,

I've been a lurker since resubbing, but wanted to let
those in the Seattle area know about a couple of
upcoming readings of interest to birders and
those interested in urban natural history.

My friend David Williams will be reading from his new
book, The Street-Smart Naturalist: Field Notes from
Seattle. The book consists of 12 personal essays about
natural history in the city. They range from geology
to weather to crows to bugs.

Of particular interest to Tweeters are the three
essays that focus on birds. One follows a pair of bald
eagles nesting and raising one eaglet at Green Lake.
It contains lots of interesting natural history about
the birds. The second essay delves into Canada geese
and tells the story of how they ended up in the
Seattle area. The essay raises some interesting
questions about geese and people and their
relationship. The final one looks at the growing
population of urban crows by focusing on the work of
John Withey.

He has two more readings scheduled: Elliott Bay Books
on June 18 at 5pm, and Park Place Books in Kirkland at
7pm on June 30th.

You can also hear him on the archived KUOW Weekday
from last Tuesday. David's an entertaining naturalist
with great stories. I'm sure you'll enjoy hearing him
speak.
