I didn't realize that our crow population had "grown exponentially" in the
last decades. I read that in a summary of a chapter of David Williams's new
book The Street Smart Naturalist.

I don't think the population of unmentionable furry pets that occasionally
roam roofs has changed that much. I suspect the crows are a much larger
factor in the demise of our urban Nighthawks. Roof construction and
materials may also be important. We may need to stop leaving garbage and
animal food around that crows can get. Maybe if everyone who said something
that they insisted to be true and that turned out to be quite wrong actually
"ate crow" we could get the Nighthawks back.

Has the gull population also increased?
