Hi Tweeters Folks:
We're doing a birdwalk on Sat morning at Lake Sammamish St Park in Issaquah,
and you or any friends are invited. The birding there has been great this
week. This 506 acre park has two creeks, wetlands, fields, conifers, and
deciduous forests. Issaquah Creek comes into Lake Sammamish at the park,
and near the outlet to the lake this week, there have been singing Red-eyed
Vireos, and singing Yellow-rumped Warblers. Two days ago a Bullock's Oriole
was calling there, and a Green Heron flew by. Four Common Ravens were
flying overhead today, doing some kind of touching behavior and falling
through the sky. A baby Common Yellowthroat was scolding, and it had hardly
any tail. Very cute.
There is a large heronry here. Norma Larson counted 70!! nests w/ young,
and many of those young are fledging right now.
This will also be a great opportunity to learn some birding by ear. The
birds are really singing. We had originally offered this to Rainier Audubon
but had hardly any signups. So you all are invited. Here is some more

Field Trip
Lake Sammamish State Park and Vicinity
Saturday, June 11
7:45 AM to Noon

Co-leader: Amy Schillinger
Join Carol and Amy on a field trip to Lake Sammamish State Park and
surrounding areas. This park near Issaquah has wetlands, trails, woods, and
a nice beach. We hope to see and hear singing summer birds such as
warblers,
flycatchers, grosbeaks, thrushes, and other species.
Bring: $5. per car for park entry! Lunch or snacks, drinks, insect
repellent, sunscreen, waterproof boots (or old tennis shoes). We'll
probably walk about 1 mile on grassy trails (a few muddy spots). Scopes are
welcome.
Meet: Meet at 7:45AM by Arco in IHOP parking lot near Lk. Sammamish SP.
We'll be there rain or shine. Rain hasn't hurt the bird song at all!
Directions: Take I-90 to exit 15 (hwy 900). Turn left toward the north.
Go one block, and turn left at the light onto NW Sammamish Rd. Arco is on
the left.
