My husband and I spent June 6 through 10 birding parts of
Eastern Washington. It looks like it's appropriate for me to share the
highlights, so here's what impressed me:

June 6 Umtanum Road-White-breasted Nuthatch at a nest

Wenas Campground-White-headed Woodpecker, male; a
very friendly Veery

Above the now notable Mud Lake-we didn't find
Black-backed Woodpeckers, but thought the scenery was great! We did stop by
a little pond which was attracting birds from far and wide, such as Lazuli
Bunting. Also saw a Townsend's Solitaire along the road.

June 7 On Hwy 24, east of Yakima, several miles down from the
summit on Yakima Ridge, two Long-billed Curlews

In Washtucna, we found the Collared Dove in Bassett
Park. It seemed attracted to a Mourning Dove.

June 8 Bisquit Ridge, Green-tailed Towhee. Other areas of the
Blue Mountains, a total of seven Wild Turkeys

June 9 In the bay along the road, approaching Central Ferry
Bridge on Hwy 127 from the south, 2 Clark's Grebes

Along the road above the picnic area at Steptoe
Butte, several Gray Catbirds

Turnbull Wildlife Refuge, first a Pygmy Nuthatch at
a nest, then a flock of Pygmy Nuthatches

June 10 Along Dodson Road, .5 mi north of the intersection with
Frenchman Hill Road, one Burrowing Owl

At the pond at the end of the road (1 SW?) north of
the Winchester Waterway, several Forster's Terns.



We tried, but failed to find the Tri-colored Blackbirds that Bob
Flores and others had seen along Texas-Lake Road in Whitman County. Has
anyone else found those birds since he saw them a couple weeks ago?
