While driving home from Portland last Friday (June 10th) at about 11:30 AM,
I observed a magpie on a wire between Scappoose and St. Helens. I was on
Hwy. 30 and the bird was on the east side of the road. I mentioned it to my
wife at the time as I had never seen a magpie in this area, or any other
area west of the mountains.

We had one other interesting observation while at Lincoln City on the coast.
We were walking the beach near Mo's at the Siletz River when I noted several
Turkey Vultures. They were on the sand bar on the south side of the river
and were feasting on a dead sea Lyon.
