I was pretty excited to find western toads in a big log jam on the Nisqually River (Thurston County side, off Bald Hill Road) today
but, as I was leaving, I decided to take a short walking detour to get another view of the river and I came upon a Bank Swallow
colony in an eroded bank above the river.

I got home to find my order of "Birds of Washington" had arrived. So, I was able to read up on the latest on Bank Swallows and it
appears that they are quite rare breeders in western Washington. I know this is the first colony I've ever seen on this side of the
Cascades.
