This is the Vancouver Natural History Society's Bird Alert for Wednesday,
June 15th, sponsored in part by the Wild Birds Unlimited stores in Vancouver
and North Vancouver.

Rare bird alert for a BALTIMORE ORIOLE, LOGGERHEAD SHRIKE and out of town a
DICKCISSEL.

Sightings for Wednesday, June 15

A singing male BALTIMORE ORIOLE was discovered along the Grant Narrows
nature diyke this morning. The bird was a 100m or so past the area with
several snags on the edge of a marshy area. Also near this location was a
first year AMERICAN REDSTART. Another AMERICAN REDSTART was seen near the
start of the trail.

A LOGGERHEAD SHRIKE was observed for a short time at a location on Sea
Island at Ferguson Rd. on the Airport Fence just before the Iona Island
Causeway. The bird flew towards the northeast and was not relocated.

A male DICKCISSEL is present approx 10 km east of Sorrento BC near the
Balmoral area. The following directions were given. Proceed east on Hwy 1
out of Sorrento. Before the Balmoral area turn right onto Notch Hill Rd.,
then a quick left on to White Creek Frontage Rd. and again a sharp right
onto Peterson Rd. Travel to the end of the pavement. The bird is being
seen about 200m beyond this point near a pond.

The LEAST FLYCATCHER at Brunswick Point was again reported.

Two COMMON NIGHTHAWKS were seen in overflight of Pine & 34th in Vancouver.

Tuesday, June 14

In a late report from Sunday, June 12 a breeding plumaged pair of COMMON
EIDER were observed with a small group of Harlequin Ducks at Lighthouse
Marine Park in Point Roberts. They have not been relocated since.

Surrey's Elgin Heritage Park was the location for a SORA & 3 VIRGINIA RAILS,
2 adults and a juvenile. They were seen near the footbridge.

A TOWNSEND'S SOLITAIRE was seen at the west end of Blackie Spit's Farm
Slough.

Monday, June 13

Observed at Blackie Spit were a WHIMBREL & an OLIVE-SIDED FLYCATCHER.

Sunday, June 12

A LEAST FLYCATCHER was heard and seen at Brunswick Point west of the end of
River Road.

An EASTERN KINGBIRD and 30+ BAND-TAILED PIGEONS were reported from Colony
Farm RP.

Saturday, June 11

Reported from Grant Narrows RP in Pitt Meadows were a GRAY CATBIRD, 5
EASTERN KINGBIRDS, 5 TURKEY VULTURES & an AMERICAN BITTERN.

Seen on the VNHS Field Trip at Colony Farm RP were 2 AMERICAN BITTERN, a
GREEN HERON & 2 male LAZULI BUNTINGS.

Seen perched on logs on the Fraser River south of the Pitt Meadows Airport
were 3 TURKEY VULTURES.
