This morning about 10 am I found three purple martins at the gourds by the
pier at Log Boom Park in Kenmore, on Lake Washington. There appeared to be a
female, an after second year male, and a subadult male. They were spending
much of the time south of the pier on the middle set of gourds, but the
subadult male was also battling tree swallows for access to the single pair
of gourds west of the pier. Other swallows seen included cliff, barn, and
violet green. Gene Hunn reported a pair about 2 weeks ago at the same pair
of gourds. After about 1030 the level of activity dropped off markedly. Best
times to find them are generally early or late in the day.
