Hi Tweeters,

I just checked my balcony when I heard an unusual call that I though might be some strange bird; turned out to be a small squirrel that looks like a red squirrel. I was so enthralled by the small size, very reddish-orange feet and tail and more melodious (somewhat :-) call than the Eastern gray squirrels that normally visit my balcony, that I forgot to look for belly markings (though I really couldn't see the under belly).

I checked the WA fish and wildlife site on species of concern where there is a page with photos of the different squirrel species in the state and noted the range for the red squirrel is east of the Cascades, overlapping Douglass in the Northern Cascades; but my little visitor looks like their photo of a red squirrel. Maybe I can get a photo if it comes back; I expect the raw peanuts, sunflower seeds and pumpkin seeds that I have been putting out this week may tempt it back, if the grays don't scare it away.

Anyone know what the possibilities of a red squirrel being in the Mukilteo area at Big Gulch are?

Thanks!
Judy
