So far the general opinion of the experts, based on combined study of the
photo's and description of the vocalizations, is that it is a Blue-headed Vireo.
Yesterday Bart Whelton went to the site where it was found Wednesday, and it
was singing away. He also had a lot of trouble getting a good luck at the
bird, as it stays high in the lodgepoles, but did see some good field marks for
Blue-headed. He also said the song was very different from our Cassin's, and
also noticeably different to his ears from Red-eyed; slower and higher pitched.
In fact it sounds just like the Stokes Eastern CD cut labeled Solitary
Vireo, which we assume is Blue-headed.

Bart checked the mileage and came up with these numbers: From the east end
of the bridge over the Pend Oreille at Usk, 15.8 miles north to the "other"
LeClerc Creek Rd, also paved; .9 miles to the Y where the beautiful yard is; 8.1
miles north on the left branch, West Branch LeClerc Creek Rd, into Dry Canyon
and power pole # L 69. He heard, but did not see, the Black-backed
Woodpeckers there.
