Saturday morning Grays Harbor Audubon and Black Hills Aubudon had a field trip to Point Grenville along the Washington state coast. We had beautiful weather and some great views of the birds. Most exciting was the sighting of several Tufted Puffins in the water and flying in and out of a nesting site on the southeastern-most grassy-topped islet. This spectacular sight was viewed from the southern outlook. I counted at one time eight Puffins together in the water just west of the western-most islet. Several more were flying so it was difficult to get a good count. Also, I got a great view of one Puffin exiting a nest burrough and one landing and then disappearing quickly into the grass.

The same islet that the Puffins were nesting on had a small colony of about 50 Common Murres on its west face. We also found 2 Black Oystercatchers on the rocks below. All three Comorants were seen along with a few Brown Pelicans.

It was a great trip!
