Hi Tweeters,

I just found out that I can access the Birds of North
America (BNA) species accounts online here at work for
free. This means if any Tweeters out there want to
research species online and can get to the UW to use a
library computer they can without registering. UW is
a member institution (cool:-)... I think the
registration fee is about $40 a year if you register
on your own.

I was looking up Purple Finch because yesterday
morning I spent some time on a short stretch of the
Soos Creek trail and heard a song I wasn't sure what
it was. Finally I saw one of the birds singing it and
it was a finch. Not a House Finch song but an
abbreviated version of the Purple Finch song it turns
out. The birds that were singing must have been young
fledged males. No red on them yet. Good learning
experience all around. Also heard Red-eyed Vireo and
saw a nest of Red-naped Sapsuckers, and singing
Olive-sided Flycatchers in addition to what might be
expected here. This was the portion of trail near the
main Lake Meridian park and boat launch.
