From my observations, most of the entries on this site come from other
than the eastern side of the state. The side close to Idaho.

We have become volunteers at the Little Pend Oreille NWR east of
Colville and what a treasure that is! This week alone, we have taken photos
of an eagles' nest from the cliff above it as their parents flew below us,
walked along a creek serenaded by the sound of winnowing snipes and other
marsh birds and watched as six to ten night hawks hunted above Potters Pond.
The area is also a home for yellow-headed blackbirds, ruddy ducks and a
variety of songbirds all visible and showing off their summer plumage. We
had to practically duck as a flock of green-winged teals flew in to join the
ring-billed group already there. There are four campgrounds, at least three
lakes and several creeks to explore, but even on weekends it's easy to enjoy
them all in perfect solitude! For that reason, I worry about their funding.
