Subject: [Tweeters] Resisting the urge to meddle

Just prior to the thunderstorm the wind kicked up and really got the trees
moving. As I parked my car, at the edge of the wood I noticed a baby bird,
some pin feathers but clearly not a full fledgling yet. I had a strong urge
to pick it up and bring it indoors, which in the past has always led to
death so I resisted. The rains came, thunder and lightening and after the
clouds parted I decided to check on my little waif. It had crawled under
some sword ferns and seemed fine. As I walked away to pick up a couple of
fallen branches, an adult Hutton's Vireo flew down and fed the little guy.
Out my window this morning there has been a Hutton's vireo every 5-10
minutes perched for a bit, then it flies down, no doubt feeding the
youngster. I am glad I resisted my urge to meddle, the parent is doing a
fine job, much better than I could ever do.
