Tweets - it was cloudy and windy until 9:30, when it started to mist, then
drizzle, then rain, then set in to a hard rain. Luckily, we were almost
back to the cars when the rain began, so all of the weather wimps could
escape. Four of us continued on around the mansion then over to the Rowing
Club. With the early wind and the late rain, it was somewhat hard to hear
birds sing, and they weren't fighting each other over the most exposed
perches either. Still, we managed to tease out a few birds.

Highlights:

Western Grebe At least 1, maybe as many as 4, on the lake
Caspian Tern Two flying north over dog meadow
Black Swift Maybe 6-8 over the south part of the park
Anna's Hummingbird At least 1 in Dog Meadow
R.-breasted Sapsucker Bruce saw one in Snag Row
CASSIN'S VIREO At the extreme S end of the East Meadow
R-eyed Vireo One singing N of the E end of the boardwalk
N R-w. Swallow One flying upslough near windmill
Bullock's Oriole Ned McGarry saw one W of dog meadow
Purple Finch A couple heard singing distantly

We saw three clutches of WOOD DUCK ducklings, including one female with 2
WODU and 2 HOME mid-sized ducklings. There was a female HOME with 2 of her
own at the Rowing Club pond.

The RED-TAILED HAWK nest atop the odd-snag appeared to be empty - presumably
the young have fledged.

For the day, we had 58 species - not at all bad, considering the weather.
