I took the 5:10 pm Edmonds ferry to Kingston today. At the dock I observed 1, possibly 2, marbled murrelets, a grebe, probably western, a pair of mallards, several pigeon guillemots, and one rhinoceros auklet. On the water I saw several more pigeon guillemots, had several rhino auklets just above the water's surface, 2 harbor porpoise (not together), and a harbor seal floating on its back.
I was returning from Jim Creek Naval site, outside Arlington, where it rained or misted the entire day. The group I was with saw several birds - song sparrow, Wilson's warbler, robin, Swainson's thrush (heard only), unknown woodpecker (heard only), and an osprey successfully fishing. A black bear was also observed.
