What you are seeing are the juvies! They haven't learned yet--it takes about
1-2 days of funny[for the watchers]trial and error, then they get it too. If
these are rufus (RUHU), the adult males may/will be leaving soon--sometime in
July (although I have had one stay/fly through in Aug). The adult females
leave next, then the juvies, both sexes leave in September. Since I have
resident Anna's (ANHU), I don't know when or if the ANHU leave in your area.
