Subject: [Tweeters] Federal Way, Green Heron, Empid Flycatcher Question

Tweets,
at Celebration park (Federal Way) today at lunch, out
of a SMALL marshy area that I would swear could not
hold any fish, I saw a Green Heron break cover and fly
to the thick cat-tails at the edge of the marsh.
Anyone out there know how much of a Green Heron's diet
consists of critters other than fish? Bugs and frogs?
Also,
how diagnostic is the "tail flick" of a Gray
Flycatcher? I saw an empid FC, not much yellow on it,
and it flicked its tail consistently. It was in some
low shrubs along the power-line clear-cut. The only
calls I heard were the classic 'whit' call. No song,
darn it! I am just starting to tease apart the
Empids, and I know a Gray FC would be rare this side
of the mountains. Would a Hammond's be likely to
flick its tail much?
Either way, without a song, I will never call THAT
bird ;)
Good Birding!
Guy
