Tweets.

This morning at Juanita Bay Park a small (3-5) flock of RED CROSSBILLS
circled noisily, landed briefly at the top of a deciduous tree, then flew
off, probably in search of something more to their liking. This was on the
short road behind the fire station.interestingly, Ryan Merrill saw some in
the same place in early April.

Yesterday, a family group (2 adults, 3 juveniles) of BREWER'S BLACKBIRDS
were feeding on the lawn of the park. Not used to seeing them away from
Costco or QFC.only 1 other park record.

Some other species of interest this morning:

* Osprey - caught a fish and then flew to the platform to eat it.
* CASPIAN TERN - first of the year.
* Red-breasted Sapsucker - 2 juveniles following their parents.
* OLIVE-SIDED FLYCATCHER - here since mid-May. Nesting?
* Western Wood-Pewees - at least 3 singing males. Last year we only
found 1 nesting pair.

It's been a rather strange spring, with some of our resident birds absent.
After having 50+ PIED-BILLED GREBES wintering in the bay, this is the first
year in memory that none have nested here. No sightings since the 1st week
of May. Also, BELTED KINGFISHERS seem to have gone elsewhere.only 2-3
sightings in the last 2 months. Other birds have been in great abundance:
several territorial males of both ANNA'S and RUFOUS HUMMINGBIRDS, and now
many immatures. So far, no GREEN HERONS have been seen. If anyone has any
sightings of any of these, please email me.

Thanks,

MaryFrances Mathis
